Why Social Media?

Why would you connect your business to social media? When you consider your advertising, you think towards one thing: getting as many eyeball on you ad (and your product) as possible. You also think about getting it for the best price possible. So if that is your goal, consider this:

It took radio 38 years to reach 50 million listeners

It took television 13 years to reach 50 million viewers

The Internet captured the attention of 50 million users in 4 years and the iPod did it in 3 year.

Facebook added 100 million users….in 9 months. If it were a country, it would be the 3rd largest in the world, behind India and China.

NOW do I have your attention?

In Campbell River, it is estimated that there are 40,000 different connection, using various social media tools. How is that possible in a community of barely 30,000 people? Consider that most people have an email account. Many of those are on Facebook. Of those, a good majority use Twitter, YouTube, Digg and other social media and networking sites on almost a daily basis. And all of these people and tools are connected to thousands of other users and they, in turn, thousands more. How many people will see your newspaper ad today. How about tomorrow?

This little post will be connected to Facebook and Twitter, as well as a few other online tools, picked up by search engines and linked by other users around the globe. Total cost? 15 minutes of my time.

Isn’t it time to consider getting your business connected to the social media and technology that is out there today?
